Bunyarra Farm
Frequently Asked Questions

How will I find the farm?

If you search our address you will find us on Google Maps. We will provide you an information letter with photos and directions so you can drive up to our therapy space and park next to our therapy room.

Will I be working outside even if it is raining?

Yes we will still have our sessions if it is raining. We have an undercover area and we can supply a rain coat or umbrella if needed. If we have severe weather warnings for our location we will make a decision with you about the need to cancel or reschedule.

What do I need to bring to my session?

You will need to bring protective gear for the weather (sun or rain) and any essential medical items (inhaler or EpiPen) if you have any asthma or allergies. You may wish to bring your own insect repellent and sunscreen. You are welcome to bring any items of support such as comforting toys or sensory items. We also welcome emotional support animals to the farm. They will need to remain on a lead and give our animals lots of space.

Can I have a support person attend with me?

We welcome support workers into our sessions for those with disabilities. You are welcome to have a support person wait nearby during your session. For children, we will work with parents to work out the best option for your child. We may have you join part of our session until your child feels comfortable.

Do I need experience with horses?

No experience is needed. We work with everyone from complete beginners to long time horse lovers. We will work at your own pace and make sure you are comfortable around the horses. There is no pressure to engage with them and we understand that sometimes people feel scared and nervous of horses.
Will I be riding a horse at my session?
We don't offer horse riding or riding lessons as part of our services. Often our sessions are based on the ground with the horses. If there is an identified need for the client to be supported with riding this can be considered.
Is the farm wheelchair accessible?

Yes the farm is accessible for people in a wheelchair. There is a gravel driveway leading from the road which is accessible for all vehicles in all weather. You can park right next to the therapy space and there are flat areas leading to the therapy room.

What facilities do you have at the farm?

We have a bathroom and toilet available nearby at the farmhouse. The bathroom and toilet is separate to the house offering privacy. We also have tea and coffee making facilities and offer fresh rainwater for drinking.

How long does my session go for?

Our individual sessions are one hour. This includes a 50 minute session and allows time for a debrief with parents or caregivers. If you would like an extended session we also offer 1.5 or 2 hour sessions. For groups we generally recommend 2-3 hour sessions.

Are animal assisted therapy sessions still covered under NDIS?

Yes they are. There was some confusion and misinformation in October 2024 following some announcements by the NDIS. However, animal assisted therapy can be offered by a trained allied health professional such as a counsellor. Our sessions are offered by Steph who is a trained mental health professional with qualifications and a registration as a counsellor (item codes 15_606_0118_1_3
Early Childhood Supports - Counsellor & 15_043_0128_1_3 Assessment Recommendation Therapy or Training - Counsellor).

How much will my session cost?

Sessions are priced in accordance with the NDIS price guide. A one hour session is invoiced at $182.18. This price includes the session and additional non contact time to cover session admin and preparation tasks.

Privately funded sessions are charged at the same rate as NDIS sessions in order to ensure equality. Group programs will be priced according to time and the number of participants. For example a school holiday group of 4-6 children for 3 hours may be priced at $150 per person.
If you are a concession holder or low income earner we offer a sliding price scale. We also accept funding through government grants, insurance providers or charities such as Animal Assisted Therapy Ltd.

Unfortunately there are no rebates available through Medicare, however the ACA is advocating for change in this area. Currently we cannot provide rebates under private health insurance however this will change in the near future.

What are your policies?

We have a 48 hour cancellation policy. We charge the full fee for short notice cancellations. If you have a crisis or emergency we can reschedule your session at no cost. We abide by the Privacy Act and we keep all of your information confidential, including any documents completed and signed. We have a secure data collection system for bookings and client information.
